Select the channels and interface before treating this as one weather station

The reviewed documents describe a configurable instrument family, not one universal all-channel configuration.

  • Wind speed and wind direction are mandatory. The five-channel set adds air temperature, relative humidity and atmospheric pressure; the six-channel set adds precipitation; the nine-channel set adds precipitation, solar radiation, illuminance and dust.
  • RS485, RS232 and SDI-12 are alternatives, not simultaneous standard outputs. Modbus RTU is the default reviewed protocol for RS485; NMEA-0183 and SDI-12 require their matching ordered interface.
  • The base instrument is below 3 W in the reviewed documents. Optional ultrasonic-head heating and added sensor modules change the site power budget and must be sized separately.

Compare adjacent hardware families for the same monitoring path. The final combination is checked against the project I/O, protocol, power and enclosure requirements.

How to choose

  • Choose the 5-, 6- or 9-channel set from the decisions the station must support. Wind speed and direction are mandatory; precipitation, solar radiation, illuminance and dust are configuration-dependent.
  • Select one matching interface and protocol path: RS485 Modbus RTU, RS232 NMEA-0183 or SDI-12. Do not assume all outputs are installed together.
  • Review wind performance, optional precipitation needs, heater use, site climate, mast rigidity, obstacle clearance, grounding and lightning / surge protection.
  • Size 12-24 VDC field power from the base instrument plus any heater and optional sensor modules, then match the logger, RTU or gateway to the required update and reporting interval.

Compatible with

  • RS485 Modbus RTU loggers, PLCs, RTUs and gateways when that interface is selected
  • RS232 receivers using the selected NMEA-0183 output, or SDI-12 data loggers on the ordered SDI-12 configuration
  • 12-24 VDC field power with project-sized cable, grounding and surge protection
  • Fixed mast installations; mobile platforms only after the optional positioning and orientation functions are reviewed

Typical package

  • One integrated ultrasonic weather instrument with the selected 5-, 6- or 9-channel measurement set
  • One ordered output and protocol combination: RS485 Modbus RTU, RS232 NMEA-0183 or SDI-12
  • Project-selected cable, mast adapter or mounting hardware, grounding and surge protection
  • Customer logger or a selected RTU / gateway, plus field power and backhaul hardware when required
  • Heater, precipitation, radiation, illuminance, dust, positioning and orientation functions only when specified in the quotation

Applications

Representative agricultural monitoring station with weather sensor, solar supply, field enclosure and soil probe
Representative field-monitoring context. Sensor set, mast, solar supply, enclosure and probe placement are selected for the crop and site.

Use this integrated instrument when a site needs ultrasonic wind measurement plus a selected weather-data set in one compact mast-mounted housing. Wind speed and direction are mandatory; temperature, humidity and pressure form the standard five-channel set, while precipitation or the broader nine-channel set are ordered only when the project needs them. The output, protocol, heater, positioning functions, cable and mounting package are selected together rather than assumed from the enclosure image.

  • Unattended agricultural, environmental and field-weather monitoring stations
  • Solar- and wind-site operating-condition monitoring linked to a customer logger, RTU or SCADA system
  • Traffic, port, vessel or mobile-platform projects after positioning, orientation and mounting are reviewed
  • Compact weather inputs for customer-owned data platforms where a selected serial protocol is already defined

Frequently asked questions

Which measurements are included in the ultrasonic weather station?

Wind speed and direction are mandatory. The reviewed five-channel set adds air temperature, relative humidity and atmospheric pressure. A six-channel set adds precipitation, while the reviewed nine-channel set additionally includes solar radiation, illuminance and dust. The quotation identifies the exact ordered channels.

Can it connect to a Modbus RTU logger or gateway?

Yes, when the RS485 Modbus RTU configuration is selected. RS232 NMEA-0183 and SDI-12 are separate interface / protocol choices; they are not assumed to be available simultaneously.

Can the instrument be installed on a vehicle or vessel?

A mobile installation can be reviewed with the optional GPS / BDS and electronic-compass functions. Mounting rigidity, orientation, motion compensation, power and the receiving system must be checked for the specific platform.

Does IP66 mean the weather station is maintenance-free?

No. The ultrasonic wind path has no rotating cups or vane, but the installed system still requires obstruction clearance, sound mounting, grounding, surge protection and periodic inspection. Optional precipitation and other sensing channels may add their own cleaning or inspection needs.

What should I provide when requesting a quote for the Ultrasonic Weather Station?

Required 5-, 6- or 9-channel parameter set and decision / accuracy target; Fixed mast or moving platform, site coordinates, climate, mounting height and nearby obstructions; Selected RS485 Modbus RTU, RS232 NMEA-0183 or SDI-12 interface and the connected logger / RTU; Precipitation, heater, positioning, electronic-compass and other optional-module requirements

Where can I compare available model options?

Open the Agriculture & Weather Hardware Catalog linked on this page. It lists audited SG-coded selections; the ordered configuration is confirmed in the quotation.

Will it work with my existing system?

Compatibility is reviewed against your field signals, protocols and upstream platform. Typical pairings include RS485 Modbus RTU loggers, PLCs, RTUs and gateways when that interface is selected, RS232 receivers using the selected NMEA-0183 output, or SDI-12 data loggers on the ordered SDI-12 configuration, 12-24 VDC field power with project-sized cable, grounding and surge protection.
