Remote Meter Reading

Automatic remote reading of electricity, water and energy meters — no more manual rounds.

Planning this application?

Send the site count, signals, network, power and reporting target. We will return a hardware configuration for quotation.

Why it matters

Manual meter reading is slow, error-prone and expensive. Tenants, sub-meters and remote sites need accurate consumption data without sending someone to read a dial.

How it works

  1. 1Meters are read over RS485 / Modbus or pulse outputs by a data collector.
  2. 2A LoRa / NB-IoT / 4G gateway uploads readings on a schedule.
  3. 3Consumption, sub-metering and billing data are available remotely.

Is this the right page?

Use this page when electricity, water or utility meters must be read without manual rounds and the buyer can provide meter interfaces, pulse constants or register maps.

Facility metering context

Representative site context. Sensors, interfaces, enclosure, power and mounting are confirmed against the actual project before quotation.

What buyers usually need to monitor

Cumulative readings

Energy, volume or other totalized values used for operations, allocation or reporting.

Interval data

Demand, power, flow or rate data collected at an agreed polling and upload interval.

Meter health

Offline, communication timeout, power loss and last successful reading.

Data identity

Meter ID, site, channel, timestamp, units and scaling kept consistent across the fleet.

Where the hardware sits in the monitoring path

A planning view, not a fixed bundle. Signal type, protocol, power, network and the customer endpoint are confirmed before quotation.

Typical hardware paths

Path 1

RS485 multi-drop

Best for: Several documented Modbus meters in one building or cabinet.

  1. 1Addressed meters
  2. 2RS485 bus
  3. 3Data gateway
  4. 4Customer system

Path 2

Remote single meter

Best for: An isolated asset with cellular coverage.

  1. 1Meter or pulse input
  2. 2Cellular collector
  3. 3Buffered upload
  4. 4Remote records

Confirm before selection

  • Confirm meter make, interface and protocol version.
  • Provide register maps, data types, scale factors or pulse constants.
  • Define polling and reporting intervals separately.
  • Confirm whether the use is operational, allocation or regulated billing.
  • Map site and meter identifiers to the customer system.

Send this for a useful quote

  • Meter list and photos
  • Register maps or pulse constants
  • RS485 topology and cable length
  • Reading interval and retained fields
  • Network and endpoint
  • Country and number of sites

Scope boundaries

  • Remote collection does not make a meter billing-approved; that depends on the exact meter and local rules.
  • Register availability and read permissions must be confirmed from the selected meter documentation.

Buyer questions

Can one gateway read multiple meters?

Yes when addresses, baud rate, cable topology, polling load and gateway capacity are suitable.

Can pulse-output meters be included?

Yes when the pulse constant, electrical interface and counter behavior are documented.

How is missing data handled?

Buffering and retry depend on the selected gateway. State the outage duration and reporting gap the project must tolerate.
