Check the echo path before selecting ultrasonic level measurement
The reviewed specification supports an integrated non-contact transmitter, but site conditions determine whether the echo will remain stable.
- Choose a 5, 10, 15, 20 or 30 m configuration. The blind zone and threaded process connection change with the selected range.
- Mount the sensor axis perpendicular to the liquid surface and keep pipes, braces, ribs, ladders and mixing equipment outside the acoustic beam.
- Foam, bubbles, mist, steam, turbulence and strong temperature gradients can weaken or distort the return echo.
- Keep the maximum liquid level below the configured blind zone. A stilling arrangement can help only after its dimensions and opening are reviewed.
- Use a sun shield or enclosure where direct sunlight or large temperature changes can heat the display housing.
- Select radar, hydrostatic or another method when foam or site geometry makes ultrasonic measurement unreliable.
Typical applications
- Remote tank and reservoir level monitoring with a clear liquid surface
- Water-storage, irrigation and well-head installations where top mounting is practical
- Open-channel or river-level projects after the mounting geometry and echo path are reviewed
- PLC, SCADA or telemetry projects using 4-20 mA or RS485 Modbus RTU
